Topsail Beach, located at the southernmost portion of Topsail Island, was incorporated in 1963.
The town is actually home to some great history, namely Operation Bumblebee; a joint project between John Hopkins University and the United States government to test rockets in the late 1940's. This past is clearly present with several missile towers that have been converted into homes and the Missiles and More Museum which was a rocket assembly building.
It is also rumored that pirates used to hide behind the island and wait for the "top sails" to show above the dunes as merchant ships sailed passed. To go even further in pirate lore, there is a "gold hole" that sits on a private residence with a local story of how excavators came, dug the hole and left quickly in the night . . as if they found the buried treasure!
Topsail Beach has a small quaint commercial district with several shops and restaurants. The Jolly Roger fishing pier and tackle shop is one of the local favorites to get fresh fish the old fashioned way, by catching it! The town also features the public owned Bush Marina & boat ramp to offer residents and visitors wet slips and water access. Some of the best deep water in the area lies along banks channel on the sound side of Topsail Beach.
The town also offers beach accesses every few blocks along with a sound side park on the southern most tip of the island that offers crystal blue tropical like waters.
The real estate in Topsail Beach offers oceanfront, second row, interior and deep water homes with several planned subdivisions such as Maritime Plantation, Serenity Point, and Queen's Grant. Most properties lie outside of the planned communities.
If a slow pace quaint island lifestyle is what you are looking for, Topsail Beach is the place!
